Solid Flooring Installation Procedure Over Plywood

    1. Upon delivery, solid hardwood flooring should be checked for moisture content due to the possible changes in humidity during transport. Moisture content should be 6 – 9 %. If necessary, acclimatize the flooring for 3 – 5 days under normal room conditions prior to installation. Inspect each board carefully for defects.
NO PAINTING OR DRY WALLING SHOULD BE DONE WHEN FLOORING IS STORED ON PREMISES AS THE HUMIDITY TOO HIGH.

2. Flooring needs to be installed perpendicular to the joists.
All widths over and including 4” wide should be installed with a Sika, Franklin, Bostic or PL Premium construction adhesive. Apply the adhesive to the back of the plank in a “SNAKE” pattern with a strip on the end of the each plank. Each board should be glued down individually. (Glue may also be trawled directly onto the sub-floor by following the manufacturers instructions on the adhesive)
DO NOT APPLY GLUE TO THE TONGUE OR GROVE OF THE FLOORING

3. We recommend 1 ¾” nail cleats or 1 ¾” staples be used with a pneumatic or non-pneumatic floor nailing gun. It is recommended that nails should be placed approximately 2” away from the end of each board with a nail pattern every 6” to 8”

* WE RECOMMEND ALL OIL FINISHED FLOORS BE REFRESHED AFTER INSTALLATION

*Solid Flooring Installation Procedure Over Concrete

**SOLID WOOD FLOORING SHOULD NOT BE INSTALLED BELOW GRADE
WITHOUT CONSULTING PROFESSIONAL ADVICE **

1.In order to properly install hardwood flooring on concrete, the slab must have cured for a minimum of 30 days. Prior to installation, a moisture test must be performed using a moisture meter, such as a RAPID RH MOISTURE METER. In order to proceed, the moisture content must be less than 12%.
Alternatively, a poly test could be used to test an area of 1 Square foot.
A moisture barrier should be applied on the concrete before the solid wood flooring is installed. For installations in Condominiums, where sound control is needed, an under lament can be installed. (Please contact us for further details of the underlay specifications)

2.Upon delivery, solid hardwood flooring should be checked for moisture content due to the possible changes in humidity during transport.

3.Flooring installed directly on concrete (with no underlay) should use the recommended full spread adhesive of the Sika® Bond system. Simply apply the adhesive evenly with the recommended trowel directly on the concrete. Apply in sections of no more than 2 or 3 boards wide and avoid pushing the glue up and into the tongue and grove of the flooring.

** BELOW GRADE installations require either the installation of a plywood sub-floor or the application of an epoxy sealer, such as the Sika Primer MB® moisture barrier, followed by a full spread adhesive
